Localised Cryotherapy is an advanced, targeted cold treatment that uses a controlled stream of hyper-cooled air to trigger powerful anti-inflammatory and circulatory responses.
Whether you’re recovering from a recent injury, easing a sore knee or tight shoulder, or managing post-surgical swelling, Localised Cryotherapy helps reduce pain, relieve discomfort, and support faster recovery — helping your body repair, recover, and reset in just a few minutes.
Reduce Swelling.
Relieve Pain.
Restore Function.
Localised Cryotherapy uses a controlled stream of cooled air directed at specific muscles, joints, or problem areas.
This rapid, targeted cooling helps reduce nerve activity and slow local inflammation, easing discomfort and improving mobility.
As circulation increases immediately after treatment, oxygen and nutrients flood the area, supporting tissue repair and natural recovery.

The cold is intense but focused on a small area. It feels like a strong, dry cooling sensation—most people find it soothing and effective, with no pain.
-
It depends on your goal. Acute injuries may benefit from 3–5 sessions over a week - 10 days. Chronic conditions may respond well to regular, ongoing use.
-
Yes! It works well alongside Physiotherapy, Massage, Leg Compression, or Red Light Therapy for a comprehensive recovery plan.

Localised cryotherapy is generally very safe, but like any treatment it does carry some potential risks. These may include temporary redness, tingling, or mild skin irritation at the treatment site. In rare cases, superficial skin reactions can occur—such as a minor freeze burn—particularly if the skin is more sensitive or thin.
What should I do if this occurs?
If you notice redness, tingling, or mild irritation after treatment, it is usually temporary and settles within a few hours. In the rare case of a mild freeze burn, the skin may look red, dry, or slightly blistered, similar to sunburn. This is not permanent and typically heals on its own. Keeping the area clean, applying soothing aloe vera or an unscented moisturiser, and avoiding further irritation usually helps recovery. -
Absolutely. It’s a great place to start if you want targeted relief without full-body exposure to the cold.
-
Localised cryotherapy is safe for most, however there are some medical contraindications, which include:
Thrombosis Phlebitis
Circulation insufficiency in area to be treated
Cold induced Angina
Cold Urticaria
Open wounds or sores in area to be treated
Peripheral vascular disease
Varicose veins
Large bacterial or viral skin infection
Severe anaemia
Deep vein thrombosis
Acute renal or urinary disorders
Acute febrile diseases of the respiratory tract
Cancer
Pregnancy
If you have any of the above, then the treatment is not suitable for you. If you have another medical condition and are unsure whether it is safe for you to have localised cryotherapy, then we would advise you to check with your doctor before booking your appointment. In some cases a doctors letter may be required.
-
There is no strict age restriction, but clients under 18 must have parental or guardian consent and a parent or guardian must attend all appointments. This ensures the safety and comfort of younger clients during treatment.
-
Yes—there is scientific evidence supporting Localised Cryotherapy for reducing inflammation, pain, and swelling, particularly after soft tissue injuries, surgery, or overuse. Studies show that local cold therapy can help decrease blood flow to an area temporarily, limiting swelling and reducing nerve activity to relieve pain.
It is commonly used in sports medicine, physiotherapy, and post-operative recovery settings, and many clients report noticeable relief after just one session.
