MLD Massage

Gentle Relief.
Deep Reset.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a light, rhythmic massage technique designed to stimulate the flow of lymph fluid—helping to clear toxins, reduce swelling, and promote deep relaxation.

It’s ideal for those recovering from surgery, managing fluid retention, or looking to reset the body’s internal balance. At Cryobright, MLD is delivered by experienced therapists trained to adapt the treatment to your specific needs.

FAQ’s

  • It’s extremely light, calming, and soothing—not at all like deep tissue massage. The touch is soft and rhythmic, designed to guide lymph fluid without pressure or discomfort. Many clients find it deeply relaxing and grounding.

  • Yes. MLD is widely used to help manage symptoms of lymphedema, especially to reduce swelling and heaviness in the arms or legs. If you're under medical care, we recommend speaking with your consultant before starting regular sessions.

  • Yes—MLD is commonly recommended after cosmetic, orthopaedic, or lymph node surgery to reduce swelling and speed healing. You should wait until your surgeon or consultant confirms you're ready to begin treatment (usually within days to weeks post-op).

  • Many clients feel lighter, less swollen, or more relaxed after just one session. However, lasting results—especially for lymphedema or post-surgical healing—often require a series of treatments.

  • Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes. You may undress for the session (you’ll be covered with towels), or remain in light clothing depending on your comfort level and treatment area.

  • It’s common to feel more relaxed, sleepy, or to urinate more frequently after treatment (a sign of detox). Stay well hydrated after your session, and avoid intense activity for a few hours if possible.

  • While MLD is gentle and non-invasive, it may not be suitable in the following situations:

Absolute Contraindications (MLD should not be performed):

    • Untreated or active cancer (unless cleared by your consultant)

    • Acute infections (e.g. fever, flu, cellulitis)

    • Uncontrolled congestive heart failure

    • Acute deep vein thrombosis (DVT)

    • Major kidney issues with fluid retention

    • Acute allergic reactions or skin infections

Relative Contraindications (May require medical clearance):

    • Recent surgery (always check with your surgeon or specialist first)

    • Low blood pressure or cardiovascular conditions

    • Thyroid dysfunction (especially in the neck area)

    • Pregnancy (especially first trimester or high-risk cases)

    • Active inflammatory conditions (e.g. flare-ups of autoimmune disease)

If you’re unsure whether MLD is right for you, we’re happy to discuss your health history and liaise with your medical provider if needed.
